Gulf Delegation Visits Damascus.. Discusses Syria's Future with Interim Authority

GCC countries appear to seek balance between supporting Syrian people and addressing complex political reality in Damascus

Interim Government Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani, appointed by HTS leader Abu Mohammad al-Jolani, discussed Damascus's efforts to strengthen Gulf relations, noting a GCC delegation's review of upcoming plans.
During a joint press conference Monday with Kuwaiti counterpart Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya and GCC Secretary-General Jassim Al-Budaiwi, Al-Shaibani expressed appreciation for Arab support of the Syrian people.
The Interim Government's Foreign Minister highlighted Damascus's aspiration to return to its Arab sphere. Kuwait's Foreign Minister expressed GCC solidarity with Syria, affirming respect for sovereignty and stability support.
Al-Yahya stated GCC opposition to violations of Syrian sovereignty, commitment to supporting the Syrian people, and discussions with al-Jolani on economic recovery. He emphasized GCC's position calling for lifting sanctions on Syria and opening a new chapter, noting Syrian security's connection to regional stability.
The GCC Secretary-General announced renewed political, economic, and humanitarian support for Syria, emphasizing Syrian sovereignty and territorial integrity.
He supported comprehensive political transition in Syria, considering its stability crucial for regional security, and called for lifting international sanctions while emphasizing economic recovery support.
This visit comes amid accelerated Gulf engagement with Damascus's new reality. Diplomatic sources indicate the visit paves way for practical steps including delegation exchanges and joint initiatives.
