Israeli Committee Warns: Ankara Threatens Regional Security More Than Tehran

The Nagle Israeli Committee, responsible for defense budget and security strategy studies, warned Tel Aviv to prepare for a potential military confrontation with Ankara.

The government committee's report highlighted Turkish efforts to restore historical Ottoman-era dominance could escalate conflict with Israel. The report emphasized risks of Syrian armed groups' alliance with Turkey, considering it a serious challenge to Israeli national security.

The report suggested the Syrian threat could become more dangerous than the Iranian threat, warning about Turkey potentially using these forces to destabilize the region.

The analysis coincided with escalating hardline approaches by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, perceived by analysts as hostile to Israeli interests.

The committee recommended increasing defense budget by 15 billion shekels annually for the next five years to enhance Israeli Defense Forces' capabilities against Turkish and regional challenges.

The committee proposed a comprehensive plan including:

Acquiring additional F-15 fighters

Purchasing refueling aircraft, drones, satellites

Developing multi-level air defense systems

Enhancing long-range offensive capabilities

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu commented: "We're witnessing fundamental changes in the Middle East. Iran was long our greatest threat, but new forces are entering the stage, and we must be prepared for the unexpected."

The report provided recommendations to Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yisrael Katz, and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, emphasizing the need for strategic preparedness in a rapidly changing regional landscape.
