Two French youths arrested for climbing the Redeemer statue in Brazil

According to France in Arabic, Brazilian police have arrested two French youths after they climbed the famous Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro to watch the sunrise.


France in Arabic reported, citing France Press that the two young men broke the law because they stayed on Sunday evening at the site of the 38-meter-high statue at nightfall, after visiting hours ended.

Before dawn, the two young men entered the center of the statue to climb out of an armhole to watch the sunrise over the majestic Guanabara Bay, but their adventure ended shortly after they were stopped by the police.


The France in Arabic added, the two young men were later released after paying a fine of 1,600 euros.

It should be noted that the statue of Christ the Redeemer is the most visited site in the tourist capital of Brazil.


It receives nearly two million tourists every year, "but only during the day."
