The Asman Sabri Award Committee for Friendship Between Peoples announced selecting Syrian activist Ghassan Al-Mufleh, born in Daraa in 1959, as the recipient of its sixth edition award for 2024.

The committee's statement traced Al-Mufleh's activist journey, noting his two arrests by the Syrian regime - first in 1980 for two months, and second in 1987 for 12 years, before leaving to Switzerland in 2004, where he emerged as a writer for prestigious Arab newspapers.

Al-Mufleh participated in opposition political activities during the "Syrian Revolution" by joining the Syrian National Council within the "Founding National Bloc," later withdrawing due to foreign interventions and Muslim Brotherhood control.

The committee highlighted Al-Mufleh's engagement with the Kurdish community, citing his quote: "My position on this issue couldn't have evolved without interaction with Kurdish friends, internal dialogues and discussions, and following their writings and concerns, both small and large."

The committee reviewed Al-Mufleh's vision for Syria's solution, documenting his statement: "When we see that all components have the right to self-determination, we find that the federal proposal is most suitable for us as Syrians. Federalism is a flexible system that can be adapted in Syria; even the existence of a Kurdish state in other parts doesn't prevent establishing a federal system in Syria."

The committee explained that Al-Mufleh was chosen in recognition of his noble stance toward the Kurdish people's cause in Syria, noting that this honor increases his responsibility and doubles his efforts in this field.

The committee concluded by stating that the time and location of the award ceremony will be determined later.
