Syrian Defense Ministry Claims Downing of Drones in Aleppo, Idlib, and Latakia Countryside

On Monday evening, the Syrian government's Ministry of Defense announced the interception of drones in the countryside of Aleppo, Idlib, and Latakia.

The ministry shared several images on its Facebook account, claiming to show the downing and destruction of fifteen drones in the Aleppo, Idlib, and Latakia regions. They alleged that these drones were launched over the past two days with the intent of attacking Syrian regime forces and the surrounding villages and towns.

From time to time, state media in Syria report the downing of opposition-operated drones, but they have intensified these claims since the explosion at the military college in Homs, presumably to justify the heavy shelling of residential areas in cities and towns in northwestern Syria.

The Syrian regime's war against civilians in the northwest of the country is taking on new dimensions, with an increase in the use of armed and suicide drones to target cars and motorcycles in towns near the front lines. There are growing concerns that the scope of the bombardment may extend deep into areas under opposition control.
