Under the Condition: Washington Reconsidering Its Mediation Role in Ukraine Talks

The U.S. State Department reiterated Saturday its warning that it may withdraw from mediating efforts between Russia and Ukraine if there is no real progress in negotiations. Spokeswoman Tammi Bruce told Fox News that the U.S. position regarding its role in peace talks has not changed, but she emphasized that "our withdrawal from the mediator role is possible if negotiations do not advance."
Bruce explained that the ongoing discussions concern the future of the U.S. role, clarifying that some media outlets interpreted her statements as suggesting that the United States might be excluded from the process. However, she stressed that the U.S. remains committed to trying to secure a ceasefire and helping the parties resolve the conflict peacefully.
In terms of military support, the U.S. State Department announced approval to supply Ukraine with F-16 aircraft parts and a pilot training program for their use, in a deal valued at $310 million. This deal was previously approved during the Trump administration, following the onset of the Russia-Ukraine war.
Deputy President Jidi Vance also confirmed that the war is prolonged and unlikely to end soon, indicating that it is now up to Russia and Ukraine to reach an agreement, as each side has come to understand the other's conditions.
The State Department also noted that Ukraine and Russia remain far from reaching a peace agreement, despite some progress, with warnings that a lack of timely advancement could push Trump to reconsider his role as a mediator in the conflict.
