Israeli Army Announces Deployment in Southern Syria

The Israeli army announced on Saturday its deployment in southern Syria, affirming its readiness to prevent the entry of “hostile forces” into Druze areas. In a brief statement, the army explained that it is continuously monitoring developments while maintaining its preparedness to defend Israeli lands and interests, without specifying the number of troops deployed or the scope of their movements.
Regarding evacuations, the Israeli army reported that five Druze Syrians were evacuated overnight to receive medical treatment within Israel, as they were transferred to Ziv Medical Center in Safed after being injured in Syrian territory.
In related developments, Israeli forces carried out more than 20 airstrikes overnight Friday-Saturday targeting various areas across Syria, including warehouses and military centers in Daraa, Rif Damascus, and Hama, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which described the strikes as “the most violent since the beginning of the year.”
The Israeli Broadcasting Authority confirmed that the Israeli military is preparing to target additional sites within Syrian territory, aiming to send a clear message to the Syrian regime not to undertake any retaliatory measures against the Druze population.
On the ground, clashes are intensifying, with reports indicating that more than 100 people have been killed, including civilians, in areas such as Jaramana and Ashrafieh Sahmariya, with fighting extending into the Sweida province.
In its statement, the United Nations committee warned of an increasing risk of social fabric disintegration and threats to stability due to the ongoing Israeli airstrikes across Syria. The report also pointed out that hate speech and incitement on social media are fueling the crisis and worsening the fragility of Syrian society.
The committee called on all parties to immediately stop the escalation, open channels for dialogue, and emphasized the importance of respecting human rights and providing humanitarian aid to prevent further displacement of civilians and avoid further escalation.
