A Word of Thanks and Congratulations on the Successful and Historic Holding of the Kurdish National Conference
Dr. Mahmoud Abbas

To all brothers and sisters,  To the leaders of the Kurdish and Kurdishistan movement, members of the Kurdish National Conference, distinguished guests,
And to everyone who contributed, participated, and supported the success of this great Kurdish event.

I extend to you all my deepest thanks and appreciation, expressing pride and honor for what you have achieved through the convening of the Kurdish National Conference in Qamishli on April 26, 2025.

This conference was truly a thunderous cry for our just Kurdish cause, standing against hostile forces, and a beacon of new hope along our long struggle. At the same time, it was a message of peace and unity directed to all Syrian national forces—a message that opens the horizon for genuine political partnership based on mutual recognition and full respect for the diverse national and religious fabric of the future Syria.

Although we sincerely reserve our reservations regarding the lack of explicit emphasis on the demand for a federal, decentralized system for Syria in general, and Western Kurdistan in particular—an essential political foundation that should accompany the demand for decentralization—we see what was achieved as a highly important step deserving of praise.

The gathering of all Kurdish activism in Western Kurdistan under one roof, alongside participation from delegations from other parts of Kurdistan, and the attendance of international delegations, foremost among them the American delegation, has given this conference a national, Kurdish, and international dimension. It confirms that our cause today is not isolated, and that our people now have a recognized voice in regional and international forums.

I congratulate you all on the authentic Kurdish and national spirit reflected in your words and statements—words that honestly expressed the dream of our Kurdish nation and the aspirations of all national forces to build a democratic, decentralized Syria, encompassing all its national and religious components without discrimination or exclusion.

It was also notable and a source of pride to include recognition of the Yazidi religion as an official religion in the upcoming Syrian constitution. This is a courageous step that reflects the core of our vision for a homeland that embraces everyone, without erasing or annihilating any component.

This conference marks the beginning of a new stage in the Kurdish and Kurdishistan struggle—a stage based on unity of purpose, cohesive political will, and a deep belief in the right of our people to self-determination, guided by principles of freedom, justice, and equality.

To all of you, leaders, members, and participants, I send my utmost appreciation and gratitude.
And I hope this blessed start will truly mark the beginning of raising our cause to the rightful position among the causes of free peoples.

Long live Kurdistan and Kurd!
Long live a democratic, federal, and pluralistic Syria!

Dr. Mahmoud Abbas
