Syrian Journalists Face Continued Risks Amid Escalating Military Developments

The Syrian Journalists Association reported that journalists covering the recent military developments in Syria remain exposed to direct risks and targeted attacks that threaten their lives.
In a statement, the association highlighted that journalists have become direct targets of violations, including shelling and indiscriminate gunfire, placing their lives at risk and threatening press freedom in one of the most complex and dangerous regions.
The association affirmed that the recent loss of a colleague while covering field events is a tragedy that underscores the serious challenges faced by media professionals in Syria. The Syrian Journalists Association considers the targeting of journalists an unjustifiable crime and emphasizes that the protection of journalists is not an option but an obligation that everyone must uphold.
The association called on all parties to cease targeting journalists and the areas in which they operate, to respect their lives and safety in accordance with international laws, and to provide a safe environment that allows them to carry out their work freely, without fear of threats or violence. Accountability for any attacks on journalists is essential to ensure that such violations do not occur again.
Additionally, the association urges all journalists to adhere to safety and security protocols while covering events, including avoiding bombardment areas and front lines of conflict, using personal protective equipment such as helmets and vests, and maintaining constant communication with editorial teams or colleagues to secure their safety. Journalists are also advised to exercise caution and follow professional guidelines with care and impartiality.
In conclusion, the association expressed its deep appreciation for all journalists who continue to convey the truth despite threats and dangers, reaffirming its commitment to defending their rights and their right to work freely and safely.
