Syrian businessman Engineer Yahya Al-Qudmani, who hails from Sweida governorate with a Druze majority, received an invitation for a meeting at the People's Palace in Damascus last Friday, based on his nomination by some businessmen in the UAE for a ministerial portfolio.
Al-Qudmani reported that he came to Damascus on Friday and met with a number of officials at the People's Palace, and the meeting was attended by the interim Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani, the Security Minister, and three other advisors, where he presented his thanks for the invitation and trust.
Al-Qudmani indicated that he apologized for accepting any position due to his special circumstances and his close connection to his work and the United Arab Emirates, thereby avoiding involvement in political structures that lack national consensus and international recognition.
During the meeting, Al-Qudmani presented the project "Green Syria Foundation for Sustainable Development and Non-Profit Environmental Protection" which he will announce at the appropriate time, and those present showed interest in the idea.
The two parties discussed national issues in general, and the discussion also touched on the position of the free people in Jabal Al-Arab, where officials showed listening to the opinions presented by Al-Qudmani, as part of exchanging views on various challenges facing the country.
This meeting comes at a time when calls from Syrians are increasing to adopt independent national initiatives that transcend political divisions and focus on sustainable development projects that serve citizens directly without being linked to frameworks that do not enjoy legitimacy or popular acceptance.
