UN Security Council Calls for an Inclusive Political Process that Meets the Aspirations of Syrians

The United Nations Security Council has successfully adopted a unanimous statement on the political transition in Syria, with all 15 members, including Russia and the United States, in support.

The statement called for the initiation of an inclusive political process led by the Syrians themselves, aimed at meeting the aspirations of the Syrian people and enabling them to determine their future democratically, while reaffirming the key principles outlined in Resolution 2254.

Council members reiterated their strong commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity of Syria, urging all countries to respect these principles. They also encouraged additional international support to enhance humanitarian assistance for civilians affected throughout Syria.
