Israel conducted a new strike deep inside Syria, targeting a car in Damascus's Mezzeh district, amid conflicting information about the identity of the leader killed in the operation.
Israeli military spokesman Daniel Hagari revealed the killing of "Abu Salah," indicating that he held the position of head of Hezbollah's money transfer unit.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that "the two casualties are Hezbollah's armament official known as Abu Hassan, and his companion known as Abu Abdullah," questioning whether the person known as Abu Salah was using the targeted vehicle.
The Syrian regime's Defense Ministry stated that the strike resulted in the death of two people who were in an SUV, noting that several passersby were injured.
Social media platforms circulated footage of the targeted vehicle near a mourning council held for Hamas political bureau chief Yahya Sinwar, while the facade of a hotel adjacent to the explosion site was damaged.
The Mezzeh district represents a strategic area housing security and military headquarters, government facilities, and Palestinian and Iranian leadership offices, alongside embassies and international organizations.
The district has witnessed recurring incidents, as an Israeli strike earlier this month targeted Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah's son-in-law, while the Iranian Revolutionary Guards' intelligence chief in Syria and his deputy were killed in a similar strike last January.
