Trump Announces Ban on Entry of Citizens from 12 Countries, Including 4 Arab Countries
On Wednesday, CBS News, citing officials in the U.S. administration, reported that former President Donald Trump signed an executive order restricting entry of nationals from certain countries into the United States.
The order fully bans entry from 12 countries: Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen. Additionally, it imposes partial restrictions on citizens of seven other countries, with the measures set to take effect starting Monday.
The order also includes a ban on issuing visas for foreign students, specifically targeting students from Harvard University.

During his first term, Trump imposed a travel ban on seven mostly Muslim-majority countries, an action that underwent several revisions before Supreme Court approval in 2018.
President Joe Biden, who succeeded Trump, revoked the ban at the beginning of 2021, describing it as "a stain on our national conscience."
On January 20, Trump issued an executive order to intensify security screening of any foreign national seeking entry to the U.S. to identify potential threats to national security.
This directive instructed officials to submit a list of countries to be fully or partially suspended from travel due to "insufficient information or screening capabilities," with a deadline set for March 21.
These new directives are part of an anti-immigration campaign launched by Trump at the start of his second term. In October 2023, he announced plans to restrict entry from Gaza, Libya, Somalia, Syria,
Yemen, and “any other places” deemed threats to U.S. security.
