Targeting warehouses near Adra.. Israel continues neutralizing Syrian strategic weapons
-
The increase in Israeli raids on military warehouses confirms Tel Aviv's keenness to prevent advanced weapons from falling into the hands of extremist organizations
A massive explosion targeted a weapons and ammunition warehouse belonging to the former Bashar al-Assad regime near the Adra Industrial Zone in the vicinity of Damascus, today Sunday.
The Syrian Observatory reported that the death toll has risen to 11 people, mostly civilians, while efforts continue to search for additional bodies under the rubble at the explosion site.
Al-Arabiya/Al-Hadath correspondent quoted eyewitnesses hearing the sound of warplanes coinciding with the violent explosion that targeted the warehouse containing various weapons, including rifles and RPG launchers.
Military sources told the channel that the explosion was likely the result of a new Israeli raid on Syrian territory, as part of its campaign to destroy remaining strategic weapons.
Local residents in the Tartous area, specifically in Bahramain near Bamalka, began detonating remaining missiles and ammunition in warehouses recently targeted by Israeli raids, using detonators and fuses to avoid exposure to new bombardment.
Israel has intensified its air operations in Syria following the fall of Assad's regime, targeting sensitive military facilities including chemical weapons storage, air defense systems, ammunition arsenals, and naval pieces.
These operations fall within an Israeli strategy aimed at preventing advanced weapons from falling into the hands of armed factions that overthrew Assad's regime on December 8th of this year.
