Escalating Houthi Threats Against US Interests Reflect Tehran's Strategy of Using Proxies to Destabilize Region

Israel escalated rhetoric against Iran-backed Houthi militias, with PM Netanyahu vowing Wednesday to deliver a harsh blow to the Yemeni group, promising them treatment similar to Hamas, Hezbollah, and the former Assad regime.
Israeli Air Force Commander Tomer Bar revealed preparations for intensified attacks against Houthis in response to Tel Aviv targeting. At Hatzerim Air Base, Bar confirmed three successful strikes, stating plans to increase attack frequency and intensity.
An Israeli Broadcasting Authority source reported military considerations of large-scale operations in Yemen, with preparations for a fourth attack underway. The source indicated expanded target lists and more effective strategies being developed.
Mohammed Ali al-Houthi warned Washington via X platform against targeting Yemen, threatening unrestricted strikes on US Middle East interests.
Houthi militias raised hospital readiness levels and continued targeting Israel and Red Sea vessels since October 7, citing Gaza support.
Analysts say Israel, after weakening Hezbollah and Hamas, appears more determined to confront Houthi threats. Israel claims neutralization of most Iranian regional proxies, considering Houthis their last remaining arm.
The Israeli UN mission announced a Security Council session for December 30 to discuss Houthi attacks on Israeli territory.
