Julia Nesheiwat is expected to play a significant role in the administration of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, given her marital connection to National Security Advisor Mike Waltz
The name Julia Nesheiwat, an American of Jordanian descent, has been prominently mentioned in media coverage related to the appointments and administrative arrangements being made by President-elect Donald Trump during the transitional phase leading up to his official inauguration at the White House in late January.
Nesheiwat, a scholar and former government official, served as the 10th Homeland Security Advisor in the Trump administration from 2020 to 2021. She also held the position of Deputy Assistant Secretary of State under former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.
Born in 1975 in the United States to a Jordanian family, Nesheiwat earned a Bachelor’s degree in Arts from Stetson University and a Master’s degree in Arts from Georgetown University, before completing her academic journey with a Ph.D. from the Tokyo Institute of Technology in Japan.
Her professional career began in 1997 as a military intelligence officer in the U.S. Army, where she performed various duties and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for her role in supporting "Operation Enduring Freedom" in Iraq.
Nesheiwat later worked in senior roles within the White House Commission and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (CIA). She held numerous economic and security positions at the Department of State across successive administrations of Presidents George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and Donald Trump until 2016.
