Turkish authorities have arrested a 28-year-old Syrian woman after her newborn daughter was discovered in a trash bin in the Meram district of Konya.

The incident unfolded when local officials received a report from a resident who noticed the baby in a garbage container located in the "Uzun Harmanlar" neighborhood. Emergency medical teams quickly rushed to the scene and transported the infant to a hospital in Konya for necessary medical care.

Concurrently, the police launched an investigation to identify the perpetrator. Utilizing both technical surveillance and field operations, the Crime Prevention Department of the Meram Police Directorate managed to track down and apprehend the suspect at her home.

It was revealed that the woman, who is a mother of five, gave birth to the infant in her home bathroom, wrapped her in a towel, and then placed her in the trash bin. Investigations are still ongoing to uncover the motives and circumstances surrounding the incident.

The woman admitted to leaving her baby in the garbage following the home birth. In her statement, she explained, "My husband has been working abroad for three years, and during his absence, I began a relationship with another man and became pregnant. I felt scared, so I decided to get rid of the baby after giving birth."
