Iran Expresses Willingness to Negotiate with the New Trump Administration

Kazem Gharib Abadi, Iran's Assistant Foreign Minister, announced on Tuesday that Iran is ready to initiate and resume talks regarding the lifting of sanctions with the new U.S. administration.
Commenting on the possibility of negotiating with Trump, Gharib Abadi, who was part of the Iranian negotiating team with the European troika recently in Geneva, stated, "We have always been ready, and if there is a will from the American side, the talks will reach the desired results."
He added, "If the other party adopts different policies and approaches, Iran will adjust its policy to align with those orientations." He emphasized that there are "suitable opportunities to resume dialogue and reach an agreement."
It is noteworthy that Tehran resumed talks with the European troika countries regarding its nuclear program in September 2024, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly summit in New York. So far, three rounds of consultations have been held, the latest of which took place in Geneva on January 13, 2025.
It is worth mentioning that Trump announced in May 2018 the withdrawal of the United States from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, commonly known as the nuclear agreement, and reimposed strict sanctions on Tehran. He pledged during his recent electoral campaigns to adopt a tough stance toward Iran, hinting at more sanctions.
However, Trump has reiterated on several occasions his determination to end conflicts and wars around the world, giving some countries, including Iran, hope for the possibility of finding points of agreement, despite their previous experience with the Trump administration.
