Call for Demonstration to Protect Evidence of Former Regime's Crimes in Syria
-
The destruction of prisons and security branches reflects deliberate attempts to obscure evidence of the former regime's crimes and prevent accountability for those responsible for violations

Activists and families of Syrian detainees have called for a demonstration next Thursday to demand an end to deliberate destruction in former prisons and detention centers, and to protect documents and evidence that could reveal the fate of thousands of missing persons.
The protest organizers explained in their statement that the destruction and damage of documents in former detention centers since the fall of Assad's regime represents a continuation of Syrian families' suffering and undermines chances of uncovering their loved ones' fate.
The statement pointed out that many detention centers during the past weeks have been subjected to systematic destruction targeting essential documents and evidence containing information that could help determine the fate of the missing and document those responsible for violations.
The organizers emphasized that former detention sites represent crime scenes containing valuable evidence, not just sites for visits or photography, confirming that their walls bear testimony to detainees' suffering.
The statement confirmed Syrians' rejection, especially victims' families, the missing, and detention survivors, of attempts to obscure the former regime's crimes that cost the Syrian people precious lives.
The call set the demonstration time at 1:00 PM in front of Al-Khatib Branch in Damascus, while calling on activists in other Syrian governorates to organize similar stands demanding the rights of the forcibly disappeared.
