after attacks against them on Hama-Al-Raqqah highway, 10 drivers stop working in Al-Qaterji Company
SOHR activists reported that a number of raw oil tanks drivers announced that they stopped working within Al-Qaterji company, which is owned by the Syria business man Husam Al-Qaterji, who is close to the Syrian regime and the largest importer of the oil from north-eastern Syria to Homs and Banias refineries.
SOHR sources quoted a group of drivers as saying that the main reason that pushed them to leave the work (despite their urgent need for it) was because of the repeated attacks on the transporting convoys of Al-Qaterji by “ISIS” members, despite the presence of tens of military checkpoints of the regime on their path between Homs province and Deir Ezzor city and the rest of oil fields spread in north east of Syria.

Local sources, who preferred not to be identified (for safety issues) mentioned that the recent work conditions caused the death and injury of tens of them (as drivers) amid the absence of any financial compensation for their families by Al-Qaterji company which is mainly targeted by “ISIS” at times, and the rest of other companies that compete it for crude oil transport contracts, as is the case with (Hamisho) company, under different names, at other times.
Crude oil transport convoys owned by Al-Qaterji Company were previously subjected to armed targeting in a number of locations on Hama-Al-Raqqah highway, near Wadi Al-Azib area and other sites, leaving killed and injured among drivers looking for their livelihood.
It is noteworthy that conflict of war traders who are close to the regime authority has made the employees and drivers the weakest link and the bigger loser against the attacks carried out by “ISIS.” However, despite the bitterness of life that they suffer from because of unemployment and the high prices within regime-held areas inside Syria, most of them preferred leaving work to save their lives from the attacks that await them on the road to death, according to their description.
