In the wake of the large-scale Iranian missile attack on Israel on Tuesday evening, U.S. President Joe Biden affirmed full support for Israel. Biden told reporters at the White House: "The United States fully, fully supports Israel," indicating that the Iranian attack seemed ineffective.

Biden added that there is an ongoing discussion about how Israel will respond to the attack, emphasizing that the consequences for Tehran are not yet clear. He also announced his intention to speak with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

For her part, Vice President Kamala Harris confirmed "the unwavering commitment to Israel's security," stressing that the United States "will not hesitate to make the necessary decisions to defend American forces and interests in the face of Iran and the terrorists it supports."

In the same context, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken described the Iranian attack as "absolutely unacceptable," calling on the international community to condemn it. Blinken indicated that initial reports suggest that Israel, with significant support from the United States and other allies, succeeded in repelling the attack, which involved launching "200 ballistic missiles."

On the other hand, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced that the attack came in response to what it described as the assassination of Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah and Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh. It claimed in a statement that "90% of the missiles successfully hit their targets," targeting "three military bases" around Tel Aviv. The Revolutionary Guard warned of "crushing attacks" if Israel responds, raising fears of escalation in the region.

For his part, White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan confirmed that the Iranian attack was "ineffective" and was "repelled," describing it as "a major escalation by Iran."

As a precautionary measure, the U.S. State Department announced that it is working to provide additional flights from Lebanon for about 6,000 American citizens who have registered for information on how to leave.
