US Deploys B-2 Bombers to Indian Ocean to Pressure Houthis
-
The U.S. military's recent deployment of B-2 stealth bombers to the Indian Ocean reflects a shift in Washington's military strategy in Yemen, moving from targeting sites to pursuing top Houthi officia

The United States has moved B-2 long-range stealth bombers to Diego Garcia base in the central Indian Ocean, signaling a ramp-up in U.S. military presence in the region. According to satellite imagery published by the Associated Press, at least four B-2 bombers have been relocated to the base, which is situated well outside Iran's reach.
These military movements coincide with ongoing U.S. airstrikes on Houthi positions in Yemen, with recent airstrikes hitting multiple areas in Sana'a, Al-Jawf, and Sa'dah early Saturday. Houthi media reported one casualty and four injuries in Sa'dah from the strikes.
Previously, three B-3 bombers were stationed at the base, meaning a quarter of the U.S.'s B-2 fleet is now deployed to Diego Garcia. While past U.S. operations have used these bombers to target sites in Yemen with conventional bombs, the current operation appears broader, aiming at high-ranking Houthi leaders and targeting strikes on cities.
This action is part of an escalating military buildup in the region, with plans to transfer the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier from Asia to the Middle East as part of an expanded strategy to counter the Houthis.
Diego Garcia, a U.S.-leased British territory located on a coral atoll in the Indian Ocean, is primarily managed by the British Ministry of Defence and leased to the U.S. Navy.
