Tunisian Authorities Arrest Suspect in Stabbing Attack

Tunisian Interior Ministry spokesman Khaled Hayouni announced that counter-terrorism forces have arrested the suspect behind the stabbing of a security forces member in the southwestern Tozeur province.

He said the suspect was radicalized by Takfiri ideology and has been identified by the security forces. Further investigations are ongoing to determine how he adopted this ideology.

The attack took place in front of the central headquarters of the Tozeur Governorate, where the victim was on duty. The motive behind the attack is still unknown.

Security sources first said the assailant suffered from psychological problems, before later confirming that he was radicalized.

Local media sources and witnesses revealed that the suspect was wearing was a mask when he committed the attack, raising questions about the first version of events presented by security agencies.

They also said the security forces member was guarding the Subsidiary Body for Elections headquarters, not the central headquarters of the Tozeur governorate, as claimed by the Interior Ministry.

Medical sources said the victim was stable and his injury was not life-threatening.
