Strategic Airport for Russians.. Strong Explosion Near Qamishli Airport in Northern Syria
-
The shell falling near Qamishli Airport indicates the continuing state of instability in the region, which may affect the security and economic situation in northeastern Syria
The city of Qamishli in northeastern Syria witnessed a serious security incident on Wednesday evening, represented by a shell falling near the Bassel roundabout adjacent to Qamishli International Airport. Local residents heard the sound of a strong explosion, which raised a state of concern and tension in the area.
According to eyewitnesses who spoke to North Press Agency, the shell fell on the northern belt of the city. Activists on the social networking site "Facebook" circulated a picture of what is believed to be the shell used in the attack. One of the witnesses added that the shell was targeting a car but missed its target, suggesting that Turkish forces were the source of its launch.
This incident gains special importance due to the strategic location of Qamishli Airport, which hosts Russian and Syrian forces, in addition to the presence of what are said to be Iranian-affiliated factions spread around it within areas under the control of Syrian regime forces. This diversity of forces present increases the complexity of the security situation in the region.
As of the time of writing, the Internal Security Forces "Asayish" have not issued any official comment on the incident. This silence may reflect the sensitivity and complexity of the situation, especially in light of the existing tensions between various competing parties in the region.
This incident comes to highlight once again the fragility of the security situation in northeastern Syria, where the interests and agendas of multiple local, regional, and international powers intersect. It also raises fears of the possibility of escalating tensions in the region, which could have serious repercussions on security and stability in this sensitive part of Syria.
