Former US National Security Advisor John Bolton stated that Kurds in Syria play a crucial role in helping the United States understand the movements of Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham, which currently governs de facto in Syria after being previously classified as a terrorist organization. Bolton expressed support for establishing a Syrian Kurdistan region as a potential solution to enhance regional stability.

In an interview with Rudaw Media Network, Bolton discussed current Syrian situations, addressing the Kurds' future, Turkish movements, and anticipated US policy under President-elect Donald Trump's administration.

Bolton highlighted the Kurds' ability to provide insights into Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham's intentions and goals. He warned that any fragmentation of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces would benefit the Turkey-supported "Syrian National Army", potentially enhancing "Turkish occupation of Northeast Syria" and threatening its sovereignty.

He expressed concern about Turkish movements in Idlib and Manbij, indicating Turkey's continued ambitions to control large parts of northern Syria, which directly threatens the Kurds and US interests in the region.

Regarding Kurdish-American relations, Bolton stressed the importance of continued US support for the Kurds, especially in confronting threats from ISIS and Turkey-backed groups. He cautioned that US abandonment of the Kurds could catastrophically destabilize Syria.

Bolton also discussed the need to weaken Iranian influence in Syria and the region, praising efforts to cut Iranian supply routes to Hezbollah and noting Iran's internal divisions.

He concluded by affirming that Kurds have always been a reliable partner in combating terrorism, and the United States needs to strengthen this alliance to maintain stability in Syria and the broader region.
