Israeli Military Aims to Avoid Wider War with Hezbollah but Stands Ready

Late Tuesday, the Israeli military expressed a desire to avoid a broader conflict with Hezbollah, while affirming its readiness for "any scenario."

"Hezbollah's continued aggression and brutal attacks are dragging the people of Lebanon and the entire Middle East into a broader escalation," stated military spokesman Daniel Hagari:

. "While we would prefer to resolve hostilities without a wider war, the IDF is fully prepared for any scenario."

Earlier in the day, the Israeli military announced it had conducted a targeted strike in Beirut aimed at a Hezbollah commander allegedly responsible for a recent attack in the Golan Heights that killed 12 children and teenagers.

A Reuters witness reported hearing a loud explosion and seeing a plume of smoke rising over the southern suburbs of Beirut, a known Hezbollah stronghold, around 16:40 GMT.

The Israeli military confirmed the strike, stating it "targeted the commander responsible for killing children in Majdal Shams and several other Israeli civilians." Following the strike, no new instructions were issued to the Israeli civil defense.

According to the National News Agency, the Israeli raid targeted the vicinity of Hezbollah's Shura Council in the Haret Hreik area of the Lebanese capital.
