US Imposes Sanctions on Entities in China and Iran Over Ballistic Missile and Drone Programs
On Tuesday, the United States imposed sanctions on five individuals and seven companies in China and Iran for facilitating purchases related to Iran's ballistic missile and drone programs. The sanctioned entities have been linked to procuring equipment for the Iranian Ministry of Defense.
The US Treasury Department stated that the sanctions target individuals and companies in China, Hong Kong, and Iran that have been involved in purchasing key components for entities affiliated with Iran's Ministry of Defense and armed forces.
“Today’s action exposes additional key front companies and trusted proxies through which Iran seeks to obtain these components,” said Brian Nelson, Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence. He emphasized that the United States “will continue to impose costs on those who facilitate Iran’s ability to produce these deadly weapons.”
According to the Treasury Department, the sanctioned individuals and companies were involved in purchasing accelerometers and gyroscopes used in guidance, navigation, and control systems for Iran’s ballistic missile and drone programs. Among the entities sanctioned are Beijing Shiny Knights Technology Development Company, a front company based in China, and Electro-Optic Siran Industries, an Iran-based company.
These sanctions are the latest in a series of measures taken by the Treasury and State Departments to punish those involved in Iran’s ballistic missile and drone programs.
