Israeli Airstrikes on Damascus: Civilian Killed and Others Injured
The media confirmed the death of 3 civilians, including a broadcaster, and the injury of 9 others in an Israeli attack targeting the capital, Damascus, early Tuesday.
In this context, Syrian state television announced that one of its broadcasters was killed during a series of airstrikes that targeted Damascus and its surroundings. "The General Organization for Radio and Television" reported that it "mourns the esteemed broadcaster Safaa Ahmad, who was martyred as a result of the treacherous Israeli aggression against the capital."
In turn, the Syrian news agency (SANA) reported that Syrian air defenses confronted three consecutive airstrikes against "hostile targets" in the vicinity of Damascus. The agency clarified in a breaking news report that "our air defense systems confronted hostile targets in the vicinity of Damascus," using the same usual phrases when reporting on Israeli airstrikes on Syrian territory.
Amid these airstrikes, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, based in London, suggested in statements to Al-Arabiya and Al-Hadath channels that "the attack on Damascus represents an assassination operation." The observatory explained that the attack targeted "a residential building in the Mezzeh neighborhood of the capital."
The Syrian Observatory also mentioned that "Damascus witnessed two rounds of airstrikes," noting "the sound of explosions" in the southwestern part of the city.
It is worth mentioning that explosions were heard on Monday in the Al-Dimas area in the Damascus countryside. The observatory reported that Syrian air defenses failed to intercept a drone over Damascus.
On Sunday evening, an Israeli drone targeted a villa belonging to the Fourth Division near the town of Yafour in the Damascus countryside with high-explosive missiles. It is noteworthy that the Fourth Division is headed by Major General Maher al-Assad, the brother of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, and is one of the key figures linked to the Iranian wing in Syria and close to the Lebanese Hezbollah.
