Siyadna Prison Detainees and Missing Persons Association: Important Clarifications Regarding the Current Situation in the Prison
سجن صيدنايا

In light of recent reports circulating about the situation in Sidnaya Military Prison, known for its notorious reputation in Syria—especially after opposition factions took control of it—the Sidnaya Prison Detainees and Missing Persons Association issued a statement to clarify the facts surrounding the issue. The association pledged to provide accurate information regarding the situation in the prison, given the surrounding ambiguity.

### Association Clarifications:

1. **No Detainees in the Prison:** The association and its team present within Sidnaya Prison affirm that there are no detainees in any of the prison buildings (the white and red buildings).

2. **Release of Detainees:** The association announced that the last detainee was released from Sidnaya Prison on December 8, 2024, at 11 a.m. Damascus Free Time.

3. **Debunking Rumors:** The association denies the validity of circulating information regarding the existence of detainees trapped in underground secret cells, stressing that these reports are inaccurate.

4. **Appeal to Detainees’ Families:** The association urges the families of detainees and the forcibly disappeared to refrain from approaching the prison and gathering inside or outside, as such movements could hinder the efforts of civil teams working to collect evidence to uncover the fate of the missing.

5. **Warning of Risks:** In the interest of the safety of families in the vicinity of the prison, it is requested that they avoid walking on dirt roads, approaching internal and external fences, and sitting or walking in grassy areas, as these areas may contain landmines.

6. **Support for Freed Detainees:** The association appeals to all humanitarian organizations to provide full support to the freed detainees and to offer the necessary medical, psychological, and social care to help them overcome the impacts of their suffering and reintegrate into society.

7. **Call for Care in Media Reporting:** The association hopes that media institutions and media activists will exercise accuracy in conveying information about the prison, especially during this sensitive phase.

The liberation of Sidnaya Prison represents more than just a military victory; it is a triumph for humanity and a symbol of the will for life and freedom against tyranny. It is an important step toward achieving justice and dignity for all Syrians. We are committed to continuing our journey towards a new Syria characterized by justice and equality, supported by the will of the free Syrian people.
