U.S. Caught Off Guard by Syrian Opposition Assault in Aleppo as Turkey Calls for Ceasefire
الولايات المتحدة تفاجأ بهجوم المعارضة السورية في حلب

Axios reported on a statement from a U.S. official who noted that the "attack by Syrian armed opposition in Aleppo surprised the Biden administration," while clashes continue between the Syrian army and armed factions.

The official emphasized that "the United States was not involved in the Syrian opposition's attack on Aleppo."

Meanwhile, Turkey urged Friday for a "halt to the assaults" on Idlib city and its surroundings, a stronghold for armed opposition in northwest Syria, following a series of airstrikes carried out by Russian and Syrian forces.

A spokesperson for the Turkish Foreign Ministry stated on the X platform: "We have called for an end to the attacks. The recent clashes have led to an undesirable escalation of tensions in the border region," referring to the "developments in Idlib and its vicinity."

Earlier, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported Russian airstrikes targeting several neighborhoods in Aleppo for the first time in eight years.

The observatory also indicated that the so-called "Hayat Tahrir al-Sham" and its allied armed factions have "gained control over the majority of the city, including government centers and prisons."
