Taiwan Responds to Chinese Provocation by Deploying Advanced Defense Systems
-
Chinese military patrol around Taiwan reflects an escalating pattern of military pressure on the island, using U.S. arms deal as a pretext for escalation
Chinese air forces initiated a military demonstration near Taiwan involving 19 fighter aircraft and drones, lasting four hours, in a new escalation of tension around the island.
This move coincided with Beijing's condemnation of a U.S. arms deal with Taiwan worth over $2 billion, including NASAMS ground-to-air missile systems and advanced radar systems.
The Taiwanese military confirmed the deployment of integrated defense systems to counter Chinese movements, using advanced intelligence and surveillance systems to monitor Chinese military activity.
Beijing threatened to take "all necessary measures" in response to the U.S. deal, considering it a violation of its sovereignty and a threat to regional stability, particularly in the Taiwan Strait. Taipei expressed "sincere gratitude" for U.S. military support, affirming its importance in enhancing its defensive capabilities and maintaining peace in the strait.
China continues its military pressure policy on Taiwan, with the island recording a record number in mid-October of 153 Chinese aircraft flying in a single day during military exercises.
Beijing imposed sanctions on U.S. defense companies, reaffirming its commitment to the principle of "reunification" with Taiwan peacefully or militarily, despite Washington's non-recognition of the island as an independent state.
This escalation comes within the framework of the intensifying conflict between the two superpowers over influence in the Pacific region, with Washington continuing to support Taiwan militarily despite Beijing's repeated protests.
