Russian President Vladimir Putin, in statements made on Friday, emphasized the possibility of reaching settlements between Israel and Iran, while acknowledging the difficulty of achieving this, commenting on growing fears of a potential armed conflict between the two parties.
Responding to a question posed by "Arab News" about the possibility of holding peace talks with Ukraine in Saudi Arabia, Putin stated: "We consider Saudi Arabia a friendly country, and I have a good relationship with King Salman, and I have a strong personal relationship with the Crown Prince. I believe in Saudi Arabia's sincerity (in mediating with Ukraine), and if a conference is held in Saudi Arabia, of course, the place itself is comfortable for us".
However, the Russian President added that Kyiv must lift the ban on talks with Moscow, stating that Russia is open to dialogue with Ukraine, but based on what was previously agreed upon.
This came in the context of his comment on the possibility of holding talks between the two countries in Saudi Arabia, praising Saudi efforts aimed at settling the Russian-Ukrainian crisis.
During his meeting with media outlets on the sidelines of the "BRICS" summit, Putin reiterated Russia's readiness to negotiate with Ukraine, emphasizing the need to adhere to previous agreements. He explained that Moscow "seeks a peaceful settlement in Ukraine," but added: "We will continue the war to achieve victory."
In a related context, Putin warned that any efforts to develop nuclear weapons in Ukraine would be met with an "appropriate response," describing such a move as a "dangerous provocation."
These statements come amid continued international tension over the Ukrainian crisis and reflect Russia's attempts to play a pivotal role in resolving regional conflicts while maintaining its firm stance on issues it considers vital to its national security.
