Russia Accuses the United States and Britain of Planning Attacks on Its Bases in Syria
Russian intelligence has accused both the United States and Britain of planning attacks targeting Russian military bases in Syria. A statement issued by the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service revealed that agents from both countries are seeking to incite assaults on these bases, intending to push Moscow to evacuate them.
The intelligence agency explained that American and British intelligence agencies are preparing to execute a series of terrorist attacks against Russian military sites in Syria. The press release from Russian intelligence stated that "British intelligence is working on plans to organize a series of terrorist attacks, which will be blamed on fighters from the terrorist organization 'ISIS,' who were recently released from prisons under new administrative arrangements."
It should be noted that ISIS has been designated as a terrorist organization under a ruling by the Russian Supreme Court issued on December 29, 2014, which bans its activities in Russia.
Russian intelligence surmised that the United States and Britain hope these attacks will compel Russia to withdraw from its military presence in Syria. The statement from the Russian intelligence agency included: "London and Washington expect that provocative actions will contribute to pushing Russia to evacuate, while shifting the blame onto the new Syrian authorities for their inability to control extremist groups."
The statement referenced the political motives behind these measures, as the United States and Britain, according to the Russian narrative, have sought to prevent stability in Syria following the ousting of former President Bashar al-Assad. The statement elaborated: "Information from foreign intelligence indicates that the current U.S. administration and British leadership are attempting, after the removal of President Assad, to sustain a state of turmoil and chaos in the region."
