Omar Shahroor, President of the Syrian Justice and Development Party, Sparks Controversy
عمر شحرور

Omar Shahroor, the president of the Syrian "Justice and Development" Party, celebrated an event with one of the "foreigners" in the presence of public security personnel, promising to grant them Syrian citizenship, and noting a new opening that begins from Damascus to restore the unity of Islam and Muslims.

During his speech, Shahroor announced the party's intention to grant Syrian citizenship to foreigners who participated in the event.

In a tweet, Mohamed Hoidi criticized the celebration, stating: "The one distributing nationalities is the president of the Syrian Justice and Development Party, the Brotherhood’s Omar Shahroor, who is celebrating with Abu Dujana in the presence of public security personnel and promising to grant them Syrian citizenship," emphasizing that this event symbolizes a new opening that starts from Damascus.

On the other hand, another user expressed sarcasm towards Shahroor's statements, saying: "He plays on the dream of Islamic conquests and talks about a new opening from Damascus, but where will it go? Will he open lands of the Franks?" He criticized Shahroor's contradictions, noting that he was dressed in Western clothing and carrying a phone and a loudspeaker made in "the lands of the infidels."

The varied reactions to this celebration reflect fears and differing opinions within the community regarding the party's policies towards foreigners and their Islamic status in Syria.
