Israeli Raids in Lebanon: Targeting Cars in Sidon and Araya
-
The expanding scope of Israeli targeting in Lebanon indicates a dangerous escalation in confrontation, especially with injuries to international forces
Israeli raids continue on Lebanese territories, as an Israeli drone targeted a vehicle near a Lebanese army checkpoint in the southern city of Sidon.
Al-Arabiya/Al-Hadath sources reported Thursday that 3 casualties fell in the attack, in addition to injuries to 4 members of the international peacekeeping forces (UNIFIL) who happened to be passing through the area.
The Lebanese military command explained that the Israeli strike hit a car while passing through one of the checkpoints, resulting in the death of three people and injuries to three of its personnel and four from UNIFIL. This was preceded by an Israeli targeting of a vehicle on the "Araya" road in Mount Lebanon governorate earlier today.
Al-Arabiya/Al-Hadath correspondent reported that a drone targeted a car on the Kahale-Araya road, the international route connecting the capital to the Bekaa eastward, resulting in the death of a woman and injury to a man accompanying her.
In contrast, the Israeli army announced losing 5 of its soldiers in battles with Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, and carried out dozens of raids on centers and weapons warehouses belonging to the party in the southern region, where confrontations between the two sides continue for weeks.
It's worth noting that this targeting of the Araya-Kahale road is the fourth of its kind since the intensification of Israeli military operations in Lebanon last September. Since the escalation two months ago, Israeli raids have particularly focused on Hezbollah positions in Beirut's southern suburbs and southern and eastern Lebanon.
It carried out a series of drone attacks, targeting elements and officials in the organization in various areas of the country, and launched a "ground operation" described as limited across the border in early October, where Israeli forces advanced near several border towns.
Hezbollah confirmed that the Israeli army does not have complete control over any villages in the south, and the battles and shelling caused extensive destruction in about 36 towns and the displacement of hundreds of thousands of their residents.
