Israeli Army Chief Visits "Security Zone" in Syria

Conclusion Phrases: Tel Aviv confirms its continued presence in the secure zone within Syria, reflecting a shift in the strategic landscape and raising questions about the future of the military balan

On Sunday, the new Israeli Chief of Staff, Aviv Kohavi, conducted a field visit to military sites within Syrian territory, deep inside what Israel calls the "security zone," which it took control of after December 8.
A statement from the Israeli army reported that “Chief of Staff Aviv Kohavi conducted a field tour in the safe zone in Syria, during which the military situation was assessed."
Kohavi was accompanied on this tour by the Commander of the Northern Region of the Israeli Army, Uri Gordin, along with Brigadier General Yair Flay, Commander of Division 210, and several other military leaders.
The Israeli army had taken control of the demilitarized buffer zone in the Golan, as well as the strategically significant Mount Sheikh area, following the collapse of the Syrian regime on December 8, 2024. As a result of this move, Tel Aviv officially declared the termination of the 1974 disengagement agreement with Syria, a step that was met with strong opposition from Damascus, Arab countries, and international parties.
Over the past few months, Israeli forces have launched hundreds of airstrikes targeting Syrian military sites, destroying fighter jets, missile systems, and air defense systems in several regions across the country.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that Israel would not withdraw from the "security zone" within Syria anytime soon, emphasizing that its presence there is crucial to ensuring its security, without providing a timeline for any future withdrawal.
