Iraqi Interior Ministry Clarifies Circumstances of Journalist Laith Muhammad Rida's Death

The Iraqi Ministry of Interior issued an official statement confirming that the incident leading to the death of journalist Laith Muhammad Rida was not an assassination but resulted from a quarrel with his neighbors.

The ministry stated that the incident occurred late Tuesday in Baghdad, where a dispute erupted between the journalist, who worked for the "WAAY" agency, and another individual, escalating to gunfire that led to the journalist's immediate death.

In this context, Dr. Abdul Wahab Issam, the director of the Forensic Medicine Department's autopsy section, provided details on Rida's autopsy, explaining that the injury leading to his death was caused by a bullet to the shoulder.

Issam told "WAAY": "The primary cause of death was the bullet that penetrated the victim's right shoulder toward the heart," adding that "the bullet shredded the organs in its path, including the pancreas, lungs, and heart." He confirmed that "there were no gunshot wounds to the head, and the blood that came from the victim's nose is considered normal."

He also noted the presence of another bullet that penetrated the victim's leg bones, causing the bone to split.
