Ankara Exploits Trump's Victory to Threaten Kurds Again.. Northern Syria
-
Ankara's attempts to pressure Washington to stop supporting Kurdish forces represent a continuation of its plan to eliminate Kurdish presence in northern Syria

Ankara resumed its hostile campaign against the Kurdish component in Syria on Monday, intensifying pressure on the US administration to stop supporting Kurdish fighters, while Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan renewed his threats of a new military operation.
Turkish newspaper "Milliyet" published statements by Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan continuing the campaign of incitement against Kurdish forces, claiming the necessity of ending US cooperation with them in Syria.
Turkey, a NATO member, seeks to expand its occupation of Syrian territories by targeting areas of autonomous administration, having carried out several expansionist operations in recent years, most notably in Afrin.
In an aggressive speech on Sunday, Erdogan hinted at the possibility of launching a new attack in northern Syria, using the pretext of establishing what he called "safe zones" on the border, exploiting the prospects of US forces withdrawal under Trump.
Ankara uses counter-terrorism claims as cover for ethnic cleansing policy against Kurds, despite the "Syrian Democratic Forces" being the main force in confronting the terrorist "ISIS" organization.
The Turkish escalation coincides with Erdogan's attempts to approach the Syrian regime, though Damascus has conditioned the withdrawal of occupying Turkish forces from Syrian territories.
Since 2016, Turkey has continued its military operations in northern Syria under the pretext of fighting Kurdish fighters, using pro-Turkish Syrian factions to control wide border areas, in flagrant violation of Syrian sovereignty.
