US man arrested after 183 frozen animals found in his freezer
US Today reported, the Mohave County Sheriff's Office said that a US man from state of Arizona was arrested after police found 183 animals in his freezer.
The sheriff's office said Thursday (Apr 14) that Michael Patrick Turland was charged with 94 counts of animal cruelty, with dogs and rabbits among the animals he kept frozen. In an interview with authorities, Turland confessed to freezing some of the 183 animals while they were still alive.
According to the US Today, Turland's arrest came after an animal welfare check April 3. According to the police report, a woman had complained that Turland agreed to breed her snakes before they vanished. That's when a property owner of Turland's home informed the woman of the frozen animals in the garage.
Authorities eventually made their way to the garage freezer, where they found dead birds, dogs, lizards, mice, snakes, turtles, rabbits and rats.
Turland's motive for freezing the animals remains unclear. Authorities were searching for his wife, Brooklyn Beck.
A statement by the sheriff's office said that "when interviewed, Turland eventually admitted to placing some of the animals in the freezer when they were still alive."

It should be noted that the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate passed bills in 2019 that made animal cruelty a federal crime.
