Cairo witnessed an important meeting on Tuesday between Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, where discussions covered pressing regional issues and ways to enhance bilateral relations between the two countries.
During the meeting, the two leaders emphasized the depth of strategic relations between Egypt and Saudi Arabia, stressing the importance of joint coordination to face the challenges confronting the region. The leaders called for immediate steps towards de-escalation, including a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, addressing the worsening humanitarian situations, and stopping brinkmanship policies. They also emphasized the need to respect Lebanon's sovereignty, security, and stability.
The talks also touched on other regional issues, such as Red Sea security and the situations in Sudan, Libya, and Syria, reflecting the two countries' interest in coordinating their positions on various regional files.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the leaders witnessed the signing of the formation of the Egyptian-Saudi Higher Coordination Council, in addition to an agreement to encourage and protect mutual investments between the two countries, confirming the mutual desire to enhance economic and strategic cooperation.
This meeting comes at a sensitive time when the region is witnessing escalating tensions, and reflects an Egyptian-Saudi attempt to unify the Arab position and enhance their role in shaping the future of the region.
