The Masaken Barzeh area in Damascus witnessed brutal attacks on peaceful protesters who came out demanding the release of their detained children from the prisons of Syria's interim caretaker government. Women participants were severely beaten, and security forces confiscated protesters' phones to prevent documentation of the violations.

The protesters, mostly mothers and fathers of detainees, raised slogans demanding the release of their children held in detention centers, pointing out that among the detainees are school students who were arrested without any legal justification.

Eyewitnesses reported that security forces dealt with excessive violence against peaceful protesters, beating women and confiscating mobile phones to prevent documenting and publishing the events, in a practice reminiscent of the repressive methods previously employed by the former regime.

A local source from within the area confirmed that the protests came after a wave of arrests targeting a number of school students as well as civilians from the area, based on vague accusations and without allowing them to communicate with their families or appoint lawyers to defend them.

These practices reflect a stark contradiction between the official discourse of Syria's interim caretaker government, which claims to respect freedoms and rights, and the repressive reality faced by citizens when they try to express their legitimate demands through peaceful means.

These protests come amid escalating popular anger over the policies of arbitrary detention and forced disappearance practiced by the current authorities, highlighting the urgent need for genuine reform of the security and judicial system, ensuring its independence, and adopting an approach that respects basic freedoms and guarantees the rights of all Syrians.
