Russia's top security official begins two-day visit to India

The Xinhua reported, Russian official at the Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolai Patrushev began a two-day visit to India on Tuesday.

The official statement said, Patrushev's visit is part of high-level India-Russia Inter-Governmental consultations on Afghanistan.

The visit is on an invitation of India's National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.

During his visit, the Russian official is expected to call on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.

According to an official statement issued by the External Affairs Ministry, the consultations between the Russian official and Indian top leadership are a follow-up to the telephone conversation between Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin on Aug. 24.

The two leaders had expressed the view that it was important for the two countries to work together and instructed their senior officials to remain in touch on Afghanistan.
