Putin: Attacks on Ukraine in Response to U.S. ATACMS Missile Use

Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed that the significant attack launched by his country on Ukraine on Thursday was a response to strikes targeting Russian territory with U.S.-made ATACMS missiles.
In his speech during the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) summit, Putin explained, "Our strikes were in response to the ongoing attacks on Russian territory with ATACMS missiles. As I mentioned earlier, there will always be a response from our side."
Putin noted that Russia conducted strikes on Ukraine using 90 missiles and 100 drones, indicating that the General Staff and the Russian Ministry of Defense are currently working to determine targets for new missile raids using the "Orishnik" missile system against Ukrainian territory.
He emphasized that Russia is producing missiles at a rate ten times greater than the total output of all NATO countries combined, adding that starting from next year, Moscow will increase the production of these munitions by 25% to 30%. He stated, "In terms of the production of missile systems and related equipment, our production in Russia significantly surpasses the total production of NATO countries."
The Russian president also clarified that the combat tests of the hypersonic missile system "Orishnik" were necessary in response to attacks using "ATACMS" and "Storm Shadow" missiles on the Bryansk and Kursk regions. Putin did not rule out that decision-making centers in Kyiv could be potential targets for Russian "Orishnik" missiles.
These statements from the Russian president came during his participation in the CSTO meeting as part of his official visit to the Kazakh capital, Astana, where he began his second day by emphasizing the increasing support of countries for a multipolar global system.
Putin arrived in Astana on Wednesday for a two-day state visit.
