Pedersen Constitutional Committee will be a door opener for the Syrian crisis settlement.

Special Envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen said that the UN-facilitated constitutional committee can be a door-opener for the Syrian crisis settlement, mentioning to the worrying situation in and around Idlib, and the cooperation with Turkey and Russia is important.

Pedersen mentioned that he will be in Damascus next week, he hopes to have productive decisions.

He said, I am pleased that we are very close now with Russia regarding the Syrian crisis, adding that the conflict in Syria, which had been started 8 years ago, has torn the community.

The UN envoy to Syria has called for avoiding the risk of a "no war, no peace" scenario in Syria because of the years-long conflict.

On Thursday Pedersen stated to the Russian news agency, TASS, that we should avoid the scenario, and the better is to freeze armed clashes and strengthen the political process.

Pedersen added that this is the only way to restore Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence, ensuring that the resolution 2254 provides all points which support this purpose.
