Manbij Residents Demand Damascus Protection from Turkey-Loyal Militants' Violations
-
"Dawn of Freedom" factions' practices in Manbij reveal a pattern similar to their mercenary behavior in Afrin, Ras al-Ain, and Tel Abyad inside Syria, and abroad in Libya, Azerbaijan, and Niger under
Residents of Manbij in rural Aleppo appealed to the new Syrian leadership in Damascus, demanding the removal of Turkish-backed mercenaries who took control of the city after Syrian Democratic Forces withdrew.
The residents issued a statement revealing crimes by "Dawn of Freedom" factions, known for their participation as mercenaries in Turkey's foreign wars in Azerbaijan, Libya, and Niger, accusing them of committing blatant violations including looting, plundering, and property attacks.
The statement emphasized the city residents' ability to manage their affairs through a civilian and administrative apparatus supported by civil and military police, confirming that armed militias deliberately obstruct all efforts to form civil administration.
The residents affirmed in their statement their commitment to Syrian state unity under single central leadership, warning against mercenaries' continued control over the city.
Notably, these Turkish-backed militias have previously fought as mercenaries in several countries, raising fears of turning Manbij into a new looting ground under militant control.
