King Charles III, 73, will be crowned at Westminster Abbey on May the 6th of next year - in a ceremony that Buckingham Palace says will be "forward-looking"
In a statement, the Palace confirmed that Charles will be crowned in a ceremony conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury alongside his wife, Queen consort Camilla. It added that the coronation will reflect the monarch's role today.
The announcement comes amid speculation that Charles' ceremony will be significantly shorter and less extravagant that the three-hour coronation for the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Royal officials said in a short statement: "The coronation will reflect the monarch's role today and look towards the future, while being rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry."
Charles immediately became king when Elizabeth died on September 8. He also took over as head of state of 14 Commonwealth countries, including Australia, Canada and New Zealand.

The queen, who was 96, passed away at her remote Scottish estate Balmoral after a year of declining health. She was on the throne for a record 70 years.
