Joe Biden arrives in Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah, meets with King Salman
US President Joe Biden landed on Friday in Saudi Arabia, where US officials said he would discuss a range of issues including energy security with Saudi and other Gulf leaders.
Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud met with US President Joe Biden at the Al Salam Royal Palace in Jeddah on Friday (July 15).
Biden flew in from Israel aboard Air Force One, landing in the Saudi Red Sea port city of Jeddah.
Mecca’s Governor Prince Khalid bin Faisal Al Saud and Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to the United States Princess Reema bint Bandar Al Saud received him upon his arrival in King Abdulaziz International Airport.
In meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Bethlehem, US President reaffirmed the US support for “two states for two peoples,” adding, however, that the “ground is not ripe” to restart Israel-Palestinian talks.

Biden said the Palestinians require a political path toward peace with Israel, even if a two-state solution to the conflict appears far off.
“There must be a political horizon that the Palestinian people can actually see or at least feel. We cannot allow the hopelessness to steal away the future,” Biden said.

Abbas articulated long-standing Palestinian frustrations over Israel’s five-decade occupation.
The veteran leader said Palestinians “look forward” to US efforts to “stop settlements and settler violence” and an end to the “expulsion of Palestinians from their land.”
“The key to peace begins with recognizing the state of Palestine,” Abbas said.
