Israeli Conditions Hinder Reaching Agreement in Gaza
غزة

On Wednesday, Hamas announced the postponement of reaching a ceasefire agreement in Gaza due to new conditions imposed by Israel on the agreement.

In a statement, the movement said that "the negotiations for a ceasefire and the exchange of prisoners, taking place in Doha with Qatari and Egyptian mediation, are progressing seriously, as the movement has shown the responsibility and flexibility required."

However, Hamas confirmed that "the occupation has added new issues and conditions related to withdrawal, the ceasefire, the exchange of prisoners, and the return of displaced persons, which has negatively impacted the possibility of reaching an agreement that was within reach."

These developments come amid a renewed attempt by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States to mediate an end to the fighting and secure the release of Israeli and foreign hostages, but so far, this has not yielded any tangible progress.

The proposed ceasefire agreement included three phases, with the first phase involving the release of some hostages based on humanitarian considerations, such as women, children, the elderly, and the sick.

While Hamas seeks to end the war, Israel insists on the necessity of dismantling Hamas's administration of the Gaza Strip before any future agreement can be made.
