SDF Cooperation with New Administration Challenges Turkish Expansionist Project and Protects Kurdish Regions

Bassam Ishaq, head of the Syrian Democratic Council's representation in Washington, stated that recent meetings between the General Command of the Syrian Democratic Forces and the new Syrian administration in Damascus were limited to military aspects.
Ishaq clarified in a telephone conversation with "Asharq Al-Awsat" newspaper that the discussions held last Monday "addressed only military matters and discussed coordination mechanisms and common issues."
The SDF official highlighted the continued communication between SDF leadership and the new administration since the liberation of Aleppo, pointing to coordination for protecting the Kurdish component and other groups in camps, Tel Rifaat area, and the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiya neighborhoods.
And emphasized Ishaq that "SDF leadership and the operations room for deterring aggression have been in direct contact since December 8, and all military aspects and field developments are being coordinated."
These meetings coincide with ongoing confrontations between Kurdish fighters and Turkey-backed factions in northern Syria. The SDF official confirmed that the absence of SDF from the meeting between Abu Muhammad al-Julani and opposition faction leaders is due to a "special military situation", describing the recent meeting as positive, with a commitment to raise the new Syrian flag in SDF-controlled areas.
Syrian Democratic Forces control vast areas in northern and eastern Syria, including Raqqa, Tabqa, areas west of the Euphrates, Hassakeh governorate, and parts of Deir ez-Zor.
Ishaq concluded by confirming SDF's progress towards areas previously under Iranian militias' control west of the Euphrates, handing them over to the new administration, looking forward to raising the unified Syrian flag in all Syrian territories "including areas under Turkish occupation".
