Field Team Documents Status of 15 Air Intelligence Prisons in Damascus

Denial of Secret Prisons in Mentioned Locations Indicates Need to Expand Search Including Other Areas That May Contain Undeclared Detention Facilities

Sednaya Prison Detainees and Missing Persons Association began comprehensive survey of Air Intelligence Administration prisons in Damascus. Based on field team tours and security personnel statements, confirmed these prisons' evacuation and all detainees' release.
Examined and verified prisons list included multiple Mezzeh Military Airport facilities, including: Old Investigation Prison, New Investigation Prison, Fourth Prison, Runways Prison, Garage Prison, Office Prison, Hangars Prisons 1-4, and Parachute Landing Prisons 1-3.
Survey expanded including Aviation Command Prison, Information Branch Prison in Abbasiyyn area, Air Intelligence Administration Prison in Qassaa area, plus Administration's Southern Region Branch in Harasta, Rural Damascus, confirmed empty of detainees.
Regarding circulated information about Air Intelligence Administration secret prisons, based on team's field survey, Association reports finding no evidence confirming underground secret prisons extending from Administration building to Tahrir Square, Aviation Command building to Umayyad Square, or secret tunnel from Harasta branch to Damascus-Homs international road.
Association urged media workers and journalists ensure accuracy reporting secret prisons information, preserving families' feelings during sensitive period, called Syrian and international rights institutions help surveying former regime intelligence agencies' prisons.
Association noted collecting information past year from Air Intelligence Administration defectors and former employees about mentioned Mezzeh Military Airport secret prisons, pledging detailed report early next year.
